Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Tongweng in Muli Country, Sichuan. It was named by Du Qiliang in 1979, which is used be called the Biyougou group in Regional Stratigraphic Table of Southwest China in Sichuan (1978).

Lithology and Thickness

The Sanzhushan Fm, 921 m thick, is mainly composed of gray, light gray sandstone and mudstone interbedded with limestone, with more bioclastic limestone in the upper part.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The Sanzhushan Fm is conformable in contact to the underlying Linghaigou Fm with a bed of dark grey sericite slate.

Upper contact

It is conformable in contact to the overlying Masuoshan Fm with a bed of bioclastic limestone at the top.

Regional extent

The formation is restrictively distributed in Yidun and Muli of western Sichuan.

Fossils

This formation yields bivalves and gastropods, with Costatoria goldfussi mansuyi-Mentzelia mentzeli bivalve assemblage.
